ALLA PRIMA paintings

Here are some paintings from the recent workshop at Ani Academy.  I always learn so much from Anthony Waichulis.
These are all painted alla prima, from life. The 2 larger paintings at the bottom of this post need a bit more work, so stay tuned.....

Drawing in Barcelona!

"Carra"
charcoal and pastel

My drawing "Carra" is in Barcelona for an exhibition. It was purchased by the Art Renewal Center, a wonderful promoter/collection/ exhibitor entity that celebrates realism in the arts. Their purchase of my drawing was a thrill, and I am so honored to have them take my drawing to Barcelona. Wish I could go too!

Tree Spirit
charcoal  8x7"

It has been quite a while since I posted any new artwork. I have been working on some new coin designs for the U.S. Mint, and that takes top priority for me. These 2 drawings were completed under the guidance of the Ani Academy, and they are now at the Oxford Gallery in Rochester, NY. The exhibit is called "Doubles and Doppelgangers".
Now, I am working on some watercolor paintings for a few future shows. Always working!

PORTRAIT DRAWINGS

Here are a few portraits from the last several months. The charcoal drawings were done at the Ani Academy, and is usually a 3 hour pose. The pencil and color pencil drawings were done with my drawing group, which is usually 1.5-2 hours. After 9 years of weekly drawing group, I am getting pretty fast and accurate!

Continuing education

I have reached the one year anniversary of my education at Ani Academy in Wilkes-Barre, PA. As a long distance student, I complete the exercises of the curriculum, email an image to Victoria Steel, my instructor, and then visit every 6 weeks or so, to work alongside the other students, and listen to words of wisdom from Anthony Waichulis. How I wish I could have done something like this 30 years ago!

Tony took this photo as I was polishing my first drawing, "Carra".

"Carra" was included in the Rehs Gallery exhibition "Synesthesia".
As was "Fly Me To The Moon", below....
